The Centre for Ocean & Climate Solutions (COCS) is a Somali organisation focused on advancing healthier oceans, climate resilience and sustainable solutions that benefit coastal communities and the wider society.

Somalia’s extensive coastline and marine environment represent an important national resource. At the same time, coastal communities and marine ecosystems face interconnected environmental, climate and development challenges. Responding effectively requires solutions that bring together evidence, local knowledge, policy and practical action.

COCS aims to contribute to this effort by connecting research, community engagement, practical solutions and policy dialogue.

Our work is organised around six interconnected areas: Blue Economy, Marine Conservation, Climate Adaptation, Ocean Policy, Research & Data, and Community Engagement.

Through these areas, COCS seeks to support better understanding of Somalia’s ocean and climate priorities, encourage sustainable approaches to marine resources, strengthen resilience, and create opportunities for collaboration between communities, researchers, policymakers and other stakeholders.

Our approach is guided by four principles: research-led, community-centred, solution-focused and partnership-driven. These principles reflect our belief that lasting ocean and climate solutions should be informed by evidence while responding to the realities, knowledge and priorities of the communities they are intended to serve.

As COCS develops its programmes and partnerships, we look forward to sharing research, initiatives, perspectives and opportunities through our website and public platforms.

People. Oceans. Lasting Solutions.
